Vienna International Airport (VIE/LOWW): Your Gateway to Austria
Vienna International Airport is Austria’s largest airport and the main hub for
Austrian Airlines. Located in Schwechat, 18 km southeast of Vienna, it also serves as a key gateway to Central Europe. The airport offers long-haul flights to destinations across Europe, Asia, North America, and Africa. In 2024, it served 29.5 million passengers.
Terminals and Services
The airport has four terminals: Terminals 1, 1A, 2, and 3. Terminal 3 is a modern facility used primarily by
Star Alliance members. Passengers can enjoy free Wi-Fi and a wide range of services, including the
SKY Lounge and VIENNA Lounge, which offer comfortable seating, free internet, and complimentary food and beverages. The airport has over 70 shops, selling everything from fashion to books and jewelry. Dining options range from traditional Austrian cuisine to pizza and sushi. Other amenities include a health center, ATMs, and duty-free shopping. A modern, 500-room hotel is conveniently located directly across from the airport.
Transportation to and from the Airport
Getting to the city center is easy with several efficient options:
- Train: The City Airport Train (CAT) provides a fast 16-minute journey to the city center. The S-Bahn (S7) connects to Wien Mitte every 30 minutes, with a travel time of 25 minutes. ÖBB Railjet services are also available.
- Bus: Vienna Airport Lines offers a 24-hour service to the city center (Morzinplatz/Schwedenplatz) in about 20 minutes. International bus services to Bratislava, Budapest, and Prague are also available.
- Taxi: Taxi stands and a limousine service are located at the exit of Terminal K3.
- Parking: The airport provides both short- and long-term parking, along with an Easyparking service.
Airlines and Destinations
VIE offers flights to 217 destinations, with particularly strong connections to Eastern Europe and the Middle East. Major airlines include
Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Air France, and Emirates. The airport reported an 8% increase in passenger traffic in the first quarter of 2025.
