Innsbruck Airport (INN/LOWI): A Mountainous Hub

Innsbruck Airport is the largest airport in the Tyrol region and a key hub for ski tourism. Located just 4 km from the city center in Kranebitten, its challenging Alpine geography makes it a Category C airport, requiring special pilot training. In 2018, it served 1.12 million passengers.

    Terminals and Services

The airport has one terminal, which was originally opened for the 1964 Winter Olympics and began renovations in 2019. The terminal uses mobile stairs instead of jet bridges. Services include free Wi-Fi and the

Tyrol Lounge, which offers a cafe, a workspace, and impressive mountain views. You can also find a duty-free shop, a tobacconist that sells travel products and public transport tickets, a cafe (Testa Rossa), and a bakery (Der Bäcker Ruetz). The airport also offers special parking, elevators, and restrooms for disabled passengers.

Transportation to and from the Airport

    • Bus: Bus line F connects the airport to the main train station (Hauptbahnhof) in 20 minutes. A ticket costs €2.60 for adults and €1.60 for youth and seniors.
    • Taxi: A taxi to the city center takes 10–15 minutes and costs €10–15.
    • Car Rental: Rental services are available from Alamo, Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Sixt, Buchbinder, and Megadrive.
    • Parking: The airport has open-air parking lots and a multi-story car park for 750 vehicles, with the first 30 minutes being free.

    Airlines and Destinations

The airport serves 26 destinations. Major airlines include

Austrian Airlines, British Airways, EasyJet, Eurowings, Finnair, Icelandair, and Transavia. During the winter season, the number of charter flights increases significantly.
