Tirana International Airport (TIA/LATI): Your Guide to Albania’s Gateway

Tirana International Airport, also known as

Nënë Tereza International Airport, is the sole international gateway to Albania. Serving the capital city of Tirana and its surrounding areas, the airport is located in Rinas, approximately 11 km northwest of Tirana. As the main hub for Air Albania and a key base for Wizz Air, it has become one of the busiest airports in the Balkans, handling over 10 million passengers in 2024.

    Airport Facilities and Services

TIA features a single, modern main terminal equipped with a range of services to ensure a smooth travel experience.

    • Connectivity: Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the terminal.
    • Shopping & Dining: You’ll find a variety of duty-free shops, cafes, and fast-food restaurants.
    • Car Rental & Transport: Major car rental companies like Hertz, Avis, and Sixt have desks at the airport. Enterprise and Europcar are also available.
    • Amenities: The airport offers currency exchange services, lounges, and facilities for passengers with disabilities.
    • Lost & Found: For lost items, you can contact the lost and found office at +355 4 2381600.
    • Payment: Payments are accepted in both Albanian Lek (ALL) and Euros (EUR).

Transportation to and from the Airport

Traveling between the airport and the city is convenient with several options available:

    • Bus: The Rinas Express bus provides a 20-minute ride to the Tirana city center for €4.
    • Taxi: A taxi to Tirana takes about 15 minutes and costs between €20 and €25.
    • Car: Short-term and long-term parking are available, with daily rates ranging from €5 to €10. The parking area also has electric vehicle charging stations.
    • Future Rail Link: A light rail connection to the airport via the Tirana-Durrës line is planned for 2025.

    Airlines and Destinations

TIA serves a wide array of airlines and destinations, connecting Albania to major cities across Europe and beyond. Key airlines operating here include

Turkish Airlines, Air Albania, Wizz Air, Pegasus, Lufthansa, British Airways, and SunExpress.

As of 2025, the airport connects to over 40 destinations, including popular routes to Istanbul, Rome, London, Vienna, and Frankfurt. The longest route is to Istanbul, with a flight time of approximately 2 hours via Turkish Airlines. In 2025, Air Albania expanded its European routes to include cities like Bologna and Istanbul.

For travel to European destinations, a Schengen visa is required.

    Exploring Tirana and Beyond

The airport’s strategic location makes it a great starting point for exploring Albania’s cultural and natural attractions. From the airport, you can easily access Tirana’s iconic Skanderbeg Square and the Et’hem Bey Mosque, as well as the beautiful beaches of Ksamil.
